Perfluorocarbon Rubber, FFKM, is one of the most expensive synthetic rubber compounds produced. The mechanical properties are very similar to fluorocarbon rubber but it exhibits even greater resistance to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ethers, keytones, oils, lubricants and most acids. The formal definition of a thermoplastic rubber or elastomer (TPE) is “a polymer blend or compound which, above its melt temperature, exhibits a thermoplastic character that enables it to be shaped into a fabricated article and which, within it’s design temperature range, possesses elastomeric behaviour without cross-linking during fabrication.
Until as recently as , the six primary TPE types could be categorized into two generic classes, block copolymers (styrenics, copolyesters, polyurethanes and polyamides) or thermoplastic/elastomer blends & alloys (thermoplastic polyolefins and thermoplastic vulcanizates). In addition to these TPEs, two new technologies have emerged. This practice is intended to describe various methods of measuring the stress relaxation properties of raw rubber, unvulcanized rubber compounds, or thermoplastic elastomers for determining the processability of these materials through viscoelastic measurements. Factory performance characteristics that this methodology may correlate with include die swell or shrinkage, extrusion rate, mill.

Aurora Plastics is a leading manufacturer of Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR) Compounds that are available for a wide-range of applications. Handbook of Thermoplastic Elastomers, Second Edition presents a comprehensive working knowledge of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), providing an essential introduction for those learning the basics, but also detailed engineering data and best practice guidance for those already involved in polymerization, processing, and part manufacture.
Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), sometimes referred to as thermoplastic rubbers, are a class of copolymers or a physical mix of polymers (usually a plastic and a rubber) that consist of materials with both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. While most elastomers are thermosets, thermoplastics are in contrast relatively easy to use in manufacturing, for example, by injection molding.
Both thermoplastic elastomers and thermoset rubber materials get their principal properties from the base polymer. However, both types of materials contain formulation additives that modify and enhance the final properties of the compounds. Get this from a library. Thermoplastic and Rubber Compounds - Technology and Physical Chemistry Details This book describes the components and composition of all major types of polymer compounds used in both the thermoplastics and rubber industries and will benefit practitioners, researchers and students.
Thermoplastic Rubber, TPR, is a material which has both the characteristics of rubber and plastic. Like all plastics when people talk about “rubber”, they don’t usually specify what kind. There are many different kinds of rubber, but they all fall into two broad types: natural rubber (from trees) and synthetic rubber (man-made/ artificial).

[James Lindsay White; Kwang-Jea Kim] -- This book describes the composition of all major types of polymer compounds, both thermoplastics as well as rubbers.
It describes the intended effects of various additives and the complexity of. Elastomers and rubber compounds are natural or synthetic polymers with a high degree of flexibility and viscoelasticity (elasticity). The products described on this page take the form of raw, unformed compounds used for molding and fabrication.
Elastomers are usually thermosets that require vulcanization, but also include various thermoplastics. This revised and expanded single-source reference analyzes all compounding material classes of dry rubber compounds, such as carbon blacks, platicizers and age resisters, integrating detailed information on how elastomers are built up.
The work provides practical compounding tips on how to avoid oil or antioxidant bloom, how to adjust electrical conductivity and how to meet volume swell Reviews: 1.
